The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast that by 2014, Vietnam will be the world’s third fastest growing market for international passengers and freight. Vietnam Airlines to open Berlin-Hanoi direct flight

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines plans to launch a direct flight from Berlin to Hanoi on June 25.

The information was announced by Nghiem Van Khanh, chief representative of Vietnam Airlines in Berlin, during a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany, Do Hoa Binh, on April 18.

According to Khanh, the planned direct flight from Berlin to Hanoi is part of activities to mark the inauguration of Brandenburg Airport on June 3.

Vietnam Airlines will sell tickets (895 Euros, including 40kg luggage) through East Sea Travel Germany. Passengers on the first flight on June 25 can fly back to Germany via regular flights from Hanoi to Frankfurt, where they can travel free of charge by train to their final destination in the country.

Ambassador Binh highly valued the opening of the direct flight, saying that it will help promote Vietnam Airlines’ image and contribute to the fruitful relationship between Vietnam and Germany.

Vietnamese tourists top list in Cambodia

Vietnamese tourists ranked top among foreign visitors to Cambodia in the first three months this year.
According to data released by the Cambodian Tourism Ministry, 179,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Cambodia from January to March, accounting for 18 per cent of total foreign arrivals.

South Korea was next with 151,000 or 15 per cent, followed by Chinese, Japanese, Russian and UK tourists.
In the first two days of this week, the country received more than 30,000 Vietnamese visitors, according Tith Chantha, general director of the tourism under the Cambodian Tourism Ministry.
He told the Phnompenh Post that Viet Nam's proximity to Cambodia and ease of access (by road, boat or plane) were the main factors in Vietnamese tourists topping the foreign visitors' chart in recent years.

Cambodia attracted more than 995,000 foreign tourists in the first three months of the year, up from 778,467 a year earlier.
More than 600,000 Vietnamese tourists visited the neighboring country last year, accounting for over 25 per cent of the total number of foreign visitors. This compared to 330,000 Korean, 240,000 Chinese, 120,000 Japanese and 110,000 American.
However, the country expects China to top the list in the future, targeting a million Chinese tourists by 2020.

New tours launched in Quang Binh

Phong Nha Ke Bang

People of different ages who love adventure and sightseeing can experience two new tours which were launched yesterday, April 23, by the administration board of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

"Discovering the nature of Rao Thuong River and En (Swallows) Cave" and "Exploring the mystery of the 1,500m deep Phong Nha cave" offer visitors a chance to discover much more of the park than before. Authorities hope that the tours will help develop tourism in Quang Binh Province. With an estimated cost of US$280 per head, the former takes two days and one night for visitors to experience the untouched beauty of vast primeval forests, the charming green Rao Thuong River, and over 300 caves. Additionally, there is also the opportunity to experience the life and culture of the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group. At a cost of $30 per person, the latter lasts three hours and takes visitors 1,500m along an underground river in canoes. "Each visitor will be equipped with a life jacket and every tour is accompanied by a lifeguard," said Nguyen Manh Hung, one of the park administrators.
The province plans to continue tours of well-known caves in tandem with the new services. "National Tourism Month will be this June. We will organise new trekking tours that will help visitors discover more of the 1,500m of Phong Nha Cave," said Nguyen Van Ky, deputy chairman of the provincial People's Committee. The tours are part of Quang Binh Culture and Tourism Week 2012 and 2012 National Tourism Year for the northern central region. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is commonly referred to as the "kingdom of caves".
Since the 1920s, the area has become famous for its cave systems. It currently holds a number of world records, including "largest cave system" and "the area with the highest number of underground rivers".

Sapa Home stay

Having heard such incredible stories and planning to go since arriving in Vietnam I couldn’t wait to visit the Northern Vietnamese mountainous town of Sapa. I was looking forward to relishing the fresh air in my lungs, witnessing the ethnic tribes’ lives and seeing some truly unforgettable views. Leaving on the Friday evening from Hanoi train station we boarded upon the sleeper train that would take us to Lao Cai Station. Settling into the bunk beds we watched out the window as we left Hanoi city centre and hit the outskirts of the buzzing city. Falling asleep on the bumpy tracks I slept through and was awoken as the train came into the sleepy town of Lao Cai.
